How do you plan, implement and conduct company courses?

When planning and conducting a company course, the communication flow between the course director, the language trainer and the participants are of the utmost importance. I like to use the ADDIE model as a shared planning tool, and put the phases into an iterative relationship to each other. In this way, course content and conduct are constantly optimized.

In a first step, the company's specifications for the course, the needs of the participants, and the general conditions are analyzed. This is followed by the didactic planning. Based on a constructivist pedagogical understanding, I pay attention to motivational and content-related factors in the didactic implementation.

During the development phase, decisions are made about the learning material, progression and the evaluation of the learning progress.

This is followed by the execution. To support the learning process of the participants in the best possible way, I prefer the method of situated learning. This means that I design the learning environment in such a way that the participants can gain authentic experiences with job-relevant communicative tasks.

The evaluation phase follows the lessons-learned-approach used in project management.

Why is it important to make mistakes?

Mistakes provide information about what a person has already learned and are a good opportunity to reflect together about commonalities and differences of languages, rules, and language structures. In this way, the development of language awareness can be fostered sustainably, which in turn leads to more effective communication in the new language.

What different approaches are there to language learning?

In the context of learning we often speak of different learning styles. Learning styles are a mixture of different factors and do not refer to what someone learns, but how a person prefers to learn to make it easier. In other words, which approach or approaches a person prefers when learning.

Depending on the model, up to 12 preferences can be identified: Active, Reflective, Theoretical, Pragmatic. Logical, Intrapersonell, Social, Visual, Auditive, Verbal, Kinaesthetic, Multimodal. To provide the most effective learning experience, I take learning preferences into account when conducting a class.

Why are courses in groups limited to 6 participants?

In all my years of teaching languages, I have found that speaking is by far the most effective means of making progress in communicating in a new language. In my experience, a group size of up to 6 people gives all the participants a chance to get involved and progress.

How are training, motivation and performance related?

Numerous studies show that professional training through courses, seminars and workshops increases employee satisfaction. At the same time there is a correlation between employee satisfaction, motivation and work performance. The higher the satisfaction of the employees, the more motivated they are to contribute with their full potential to carry out their professional tasks, and the more competent they are, the better the work performance (Eller 2014:63, 97, 138f).
